GA4 is event based. Every page view, product view, add to cart and purchase is an event with parameters attached, and the reports are only as good as the events you send. A default install records traffic. It does not know about your margins, your B2B accounts, your subscriptions or the difference between a wholesale order and a retail one.
GA4 configuration is the work of deciding what to measure, sending it correctly and setting up the property so the reports answer real business questions.
What we set up
- Measurement plan. A written list of the events, parameters and conversions that matter to your business, agreed before anything is built.
- Ecommerce events. The full funnel from product list views through checkout and purchase, with item data that matches your catalog.
- Consent handling. Google Consent Mode configured with your consent banner so tracking respects what each visitor allows.
- Property settings. Data retention, internal traffic filters, cross-domain tracking, custom dimensions and the BigQuery export.
- Reporting. Explorations and audiences built around the questions your team asks every week.
Checking the numbers
GA4 will never match your platform to the cent, because of consent, ad blockers and refunds. It should still be close and the gap should be explained. We reconcile GA4 revenue and orders against your platform, find where they drift and fix what can be fixed. You get a written note on the gap that remains and why.
Brands running a headless storefront or more than one domain need extra care, since the default tags assume a single site. We handle those cases as part of the setup. The same goes for B2B buyers who log in, subscriptions that renew without a site visit and orders placed by phone or in store, which GA4 will not see unless someone decides how to send them.
Everything is documented. The measurement plan, the tag setup and the known gaps are written down, so the next developer or agency can change the site without breaking tracking.
GA4 is part of our ecommerce strategy and roadmapping service. For tracking that has to survive consent and ad blockers, see conversion tracking and attribution, and to put GA4 data alongside sales and finance data, see analytics and dashboarding.
