Plenty of brands still take wholesale orders by email, spreadsheet and phone while their D2C site runs on a modern platform. Running B2B on the same platform removes the duplicate catalogs and the manual order entry, and gives trade buyers the self-serve ordering they now expect.
B2B ecommerce is more than a password-protected store. Accounts have their own prices, product access, minimums, payment terms and people who are allowed to buy or approve. The platform has to model all of that without making the D2C side harder to run.
What we set up
- Company accounts. Companies with several buyers, locations and roles, each with the right permissions.
- Account pricing. Price lists, volume breaks and contract pricing applied automatically when a buyer signs in.
- Catalog visibility. Products, collections and assortments shown only to the accounts that can buy them.
- Ordering rules. Minimums, case packs, quick order forms and reordering from past orders.
- Terms and approvals. Net terms, purchase orders, credit limits and approval steps before an order is placed.
One platform or two
Shopify Plus includes B2B features such as company profiles, catalogs and payment terms, and BigCommerce supports B2B through its B2B Edition. For many brands with $10 million to $350 million in annual revenue, that is enough to run D2C and wholesale from one admin. Where requirements go further, such as complex quoting or deep ERP pricing logic, we look at a separate storefront or a composable build. We start from your accounts, your price structures and how orders reach your ERP, then recommend the simplest setup that fits.
Rolling it out
B2B launches go better when sales reps and buyers are part of the plan. We migrate accounts and pricing, test with a small group of real customers and give your team what it needs to onboard the rest. Orders flow into your ERP the same way as D2C, so finance and fulfilment do not run a second process.
Most B2B builds depend on ERP integration for pricing, stock and credit. As buyers start using AI tools to source and reorder, see B2B buying agents. This work is part of our omnichannel and B2B commerce service.
