Constantly pushing the limit of what’s possible is at the core of what’s stood 7mesh apart in the cycling apparel industry, and that philosophy of constant innovation is reflected in their approach to ecommerce. It was clear the monolithic commerce platform 7mesh was using was not going to be able to keep pace. Performance issues, high costs and difficulty integrating components of choice was holding them back and stifling potential growth.

The path to unlock that potential was to replatform - off the existing monolithic tech stack to a composable architecture - enabling 7mesh to construct personalized user experiences using best-in-class components.

For product discovery we selected Algolia. With blazing fast search capabilities, Algolia was the perfect match for 7mesh’s expansive product catalog and commitment to performance. Adding to Algolia’s capabilities, we created an interface for 7mesh to custom-map product attributes to user-facing filters, enabling a flexible and agile approach to changes in inventory, and even user habits.

7mesh, and their creative partner Hjartat, had the capability to tell a visually captivating story for every product, but lacked the ability to seamlessly connect their CMS of choice, Prismic, with the monolithic commerce platform they were using to display data and content on Product Detail Pages (PDPs).

To tell the full story, we built PDPs that pull from multiple sources - primary product and variant data comes from Shopify, meeting the enhanced content from Prismic to construct a content-rich PDP for every product in the catalog. Updates and edits are easy for the 7mesh team to handle, with Shopify and Prismic each responsible for the data types they handle best. The PDPs were further enhanced with our composable ecommerce accelerator, Compass UI, ensuring content and data are displayed using a brand-consistent UX pattern library built for ecommerce.

With intelligent product discovery and stunning product pages in place, the next step in creating an exceptional user experience was to enable truly bespoke shopping experiences for customer segments, including VIPs and B2X industries, with special pricing and inventory. Out-of-the-box ecommerce platforms handle discounted products at the checkout stage, with codes users have to remember, or discount links they must use to visit the site.

Improving on the standard approach, we link users to personalized pricing through user accounts. When a user logs in with 7mesh, their user segment is identified and relevant pricing is displayed throughout the site (not just at checkout). 7mesh has complete control over which products are discounted, for which user segment, and how much. Users don’t need to remember a code, use a special link, or do quick math on their cart to understand the special treatment they’re getting, and since launching, the average cart value of segmented shoppers has increased by 30%.
