The speed with which users of 7mesh.com can browse for products, add them to their cart, and checkout is deceiving. What feels like a straight-forward function is actually the result of an incredibly complex interaction of platforms, tools, programming languages, and data. Our composable build allows data to flow between platforms effortlessly, resulting in fast-loading, content-rich experiences for users.

The importance of site speed for ecommerce is well known. Digital advertising budgets can be drained quickly when users are kept waiting for a page to load, Google search rankings are the reward for those who prioritize performance. While some of the capabilities we built for 7mesh are possible with monolithic ecommerce builds, their reliance on javascript means the performance of the resulting site wouldn’t be close to what we achieved with headless architecture.

The benefits of a fast site for 7mesh have been realized in their user’s behaviour. Since replatforming, visitors spend 37% more time on the site per session, make a purchase 27% more often, and spend 32% more per purchase.

Meanwhile, the improvements in user behaviour are even more stark when you look at new users coming to the site from paid sources - a key segment for growth. The bounce rate of this kind of user has decreased 26%, they visit ~1 extra page per session, and spend 85% more time on the site - resulting in a conversion rate boost of 248%.

The benefits of a headless build extend to the day-to-day performance of the 7mesh team as well.

With custom coded interfaces built to manage the business, updates that required extensive scoping and/or time-consuming data entry in the past can be accomplished in 5 minutes with a line of code.

Data flows effortlessly through 7mesh’s headless tech stack - the CMS (Prismic), ecommerce provider (Shopify), ERP (Celigo), design tool (Figma), and frontend editor (Vercel) - resulting in personalized content and functionality, displayed to users all over the world using best-in-class ecommerce tools to enable things reviews (Yotpo), personalized email marketing (Klaviyo), and engaging on-site experiences.

Furthermore, the experience is delivered at high-speed with the minimum of resource requirement. For example, 7mesh drops seasonal merchandise several times a year, paired with marketing, advertising and PR campaigns that drive large volumes of traffic to the website. Before launching on the composable stack, this required scaling up infrastructure to support the additional traffic. Since adopting the composable stack, no additional infrastructure was required to launch the Spring 2023 collection.
