Scheduling Drupal Site Updates the SysAdmin Way

A client of ours recently had a major business announcement and needed to update their site's theme and publish a node to coincide with the announcement. Had the announcement been scheduled for regular business hours I probably would have made the changes manually, but because it was scheduled for 5:30 am I needed a better solution.

An IE7 PNG Fix Drupal Module

Ah, Internet Explorer and transparent PNGs, a match most definitely not made in heaven.

Everyone knows that IE6 had poor PNG support, but all those problems were solved in IE7 right? Please? Sadly, while things did improve dramatically in IE7, if you have ever seen anything like this first image you've found the reason this IE7 PNG Fix module exists.

Broken IE7 transparent PNG transition

While IE7 added alpha transparency support for PNG images, it did so in a way that is not compatible with javascript based fade-in/out transition effects. The reason for this is that IE7 uses a "filter" to render the alpha transparency and can only apply one filter at a time to any given page element. A javascript transition effect, like those created with jQuery, also require a filter. Two filters applied to one image cause problems. For MyMacs.ca, locale is not only for languages

Phase 2 of the development of MyMacs.ca which was launched earlier this year [see backgrounder] focused on 2 major tasks: the integration of Mac’s Central Division to the Western Division (for which the website has initially developed), small tweaks and improvements and performance enhancements. In this post, we focus on the integration.

Locale is not only for languages

The implementation requirements were fairly simple: site administrators would be able to publish content to either or both regions (eg: West and Central), and users would see the appropriate content based on their IP address or profile settings.

Getting the Max out of Mac's!

With over 1,000 stores across the country, Mac’s Convenience Stores/Alimentation Couche-Tard is the largest national convenience store network in Canada. It has been known in the past for its rather original marketing strategies, and more recently for ambitious contests such as the Wizards & Dragons - The Fantasy Game and Alien Abduction Game.

A year ago, 612 Creative, in collaboration with The Jibe, launched the original MyMacs.ca website for Mac’s Western Division. A bold site with a top-notch approach to community engagement has lead to the registration of 35,000 users in its first year.

Show Off Books New Website

A few months ago, Wrenna Robertson and Whelm King approached us with a unique project. They just had started their publishing business, Show Off Books, and were in the process of completing their first title, I’ll Show You Mine, which is “a photo study of female genitalia and a window into women's experiences of their genitals”.

The website we were to build was to be used primarily to sell the book and provide information about the social issues that have been brought to light through the creation and publication of the book. The stigma-breaking subject, educational approach and vision convinced us to take on this project.
